Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

Welcome to CheckMyBills. We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our utility bill analysis service.

1. Information We Collect

To perform our AI-powered bill analysis you upload utility bills (electricity, water, gas, waste, internet). The uploaded file itself is never saved — it is held in memory for one request and discarded. From what the bill says we retain the parts needed to produce and re-open your report: provider, billing period, quantities, rates, line items, totals, and the ZIP code used to match a regional tariff. We do not retain your street address, and your account number is reduced to its last four digits before anything is written down. We also store the household details you enter in the wizard (ZIP, home size, number of residents) and your email address.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the uploaded bills solely to detect billing errors, compare your rates with local benchmarks, and identify federal, state, and local rebates or savings programs you may qualify for.

3. Data Deletion and Security

We do not delete reports on a timer: you paid for the analysis and may want to return to it, so it stays in your account until you decide otherwise. You can permanently delete any report, and the bill data behind it, from your dashboard at any time — it takes effect immediately. Traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted with TLS, and a report is released only to the signed-in account that owns it.

4. No Sharing with Third Parties

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal data or bill information. One processor is involved by necessity: reading a bill requires an AI model, so the document is sent to Google’s Gemini API for extraction and returned to us. It reaches no one else — not utilities, brokers, marketers, or data resellers. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act and comparable laws you may access the data we hold and delete it; the delete control in your dashboard does this directly rather than opening a request queue.
